Call for Letters of Inquiry for Small and Large Grants

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) is releasing a call for Letters of Inquiry (LoIs) for organizations that address the conservation of biodiversity in the Madagascar and the Indian Ocean Islands Biodiversity Hotspot, and that meet the criteria set out in this call.

Please read the Call for Letters of Inquiry before applying to this call. Following calls may have different requirements.

  • Eligible Countries:  Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritius and the Seychelles
  • Opening Date: Tuesday, 15 November 2022
  • Closing Date:
    • For Large Grants: Friday, 23 December 2022, 11:00 pm Eastern time
    • For Small Grants: Thursday, 2 February 2023, 11:00 pm Madagascar time zone
  • Grant Size:
    • For Large Grants: Above US$50,000
    • For Small Grants: Up to US$50,000

How to apply?

Read the detailed instructions, criteria and restrictions in the calls for letters of inquiry, available further below.

  • For Large Grants: submit your application in English or French through the ConservationGrants electronic portal by the closing date. If you do not have a ConservationGrants account, you will need to create a new account. If you encounter any technical difficulties with ConservationGrants, please e-mail conservationgrants@conservation.org. *** Please note that all shortlisted Large Grantees of the CEPF Madagascar and the Indian Ocean Islands call for proposal have been contacted and invited to develop a full proposal. Competition was high, so if you have not received a confirmation yet, unfortunately this time your application was rejected and you will receive a formal letter of rejection in the next two weeks. ***
  • For Small Grants: submit your application by the closing date as an e-mail attachment to cepf.ritmadio2@saf-fjkm.org. Your application should be in English or French, and following the templates provided in the call for small grant below. Entitle your e-mail with the following subject line: LOI_1/2022/SG_CEPF_”countries”/”your organisation”.

  • For Comoros: LOI_1/2022/SG_CEPF_COM/IUCN NL
  • For Mauritius: LOI_1/2022/SG_CEPF_MUS/IUCN NL

Regional Implementation Team

CEPF has enlisted a consortium of nongovernmental organizations to be its regional implementation team (RIT) in the hotspot. Coordinated by IUCN NL and SAF/FJKM as regional team lead, the RIT includes SAF/FJKM for Madagascar, ID-ONG for Comoros, FORENA for Mauritius and SeyCCAT for Seychelles. These organizations are working with CEPF to implement a five-year conservation strategy for the hotspot and build local civil society capacity.
