To our great dismay, we have learned that Romel (‘Mel’) Cardenas de Vera passed away unexpectedly last week. Mel was a well-known and respected human rights defender in the Philippines.
For the last two years, we have been working closely with Mel within the Green Livelihoods Alliance – Forests for a Just Future to provide our partners in the Philippines with training on collective protection. We will miss his passion and commitment.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to his wife and daughter, family and friends.
