IUCN NL has over 25 years of experience in conceiving, designing and guiding sustainable system change. We do this in several countries on four continents, with an extensive partner network. Our extensive experience makes us a partner of choice for developing, coordinating and managing programmes and collaborative initiatives aimed at conserving and restoring nature and biodiversity, and the societies that benefit from them.

Sustainable system change

With our programmes, we achieve sustainable system change in landscapes with unique biodiversity, aimed at securing nature and fair and sustainable use the wealth it provides us.

The aim is to accelerate the, often complex, changes needed to safeguard nature and biodiversity. These changes must take place in, for example, production chains, sectors and policies. Sustainable system change requires multi-year commitment from key players in the landscape, focusing on long-term investments in solutions, relationships and processes. We achieve this with innovative, cross-border partnerships based on state-of-the-art knowledge.

Support services

For organisations, governments, companies and partnerships, we offer the following support services:

  • Effective multi-stakeholder governance/management and cooperation
  • Programme management and process design
  • Programme resource management and management, sub-contracting, risk management and impact monitoring.

What characterises our system change programmes?

Besides on projects, which often focus on shorter-term impact, we work within collaborative programmes. Our programmes:

  • focus on landscapes in or around internationally important nature reserves.
  • rotate around the development and implementation of a challenging multi-year collaborative programme.
  • have a duration of 5 to 15 years, with at least five partners, an investment of at least €5 million in one or more countries.
  • are implemented in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Netherlands or in another European country in.
