Maartje Hilterman | Project Leader Asia
Maartje Hilterman coordinates IUCN NL’s work under the Green Livelihoods Alliance (GLA) – Forests for a Just Future Programme. Maartje and her team focus on social & environmental justice and biodiversity, working with a large network of local CSOs towards inclusive, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities-led forest governance in Southeast Asia, South America and Africa.
Since she was a small child Maartje has had a passion for animals and nature. She holds a MSc. in Tropical Ecology and Environment & Development and studied dugongs in Indonesia, corals in Curacao and leatherback turtles in Suriname before joining IUCN NL in 2003. She also worked for PLAN International Philippines, where she was active on marine mapping and coastal zone management in the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park.
